Kiddush Table
In July 2004, I completed this table to complement the previously
delivered Rabbi's table for the Judeau Reform Congregation in
Durham, NC. This piece reflects the naturally influenced warmth
and style of their new sanctuary - you may see a bit of Frank Lloyd
Wright in the design. It is made of walnut with a two-tiered granite
top. The arcs of the front, sides, and top draw harmony with the
Rabbi table's curves as well as the semi-elliptical shape of their
worship space.
While the two-tiered granite top offers eye-catching asthetics, it
has origins in functionality. During their ceremonies, lit candles
and a silver tray with a loaf of bread are placed on the table. By
making two different levels, the candles and tray can be separated
minimizing any hot wax splashing onto the tray and bread.
Granite was selected for its durability and ease of cleanup.
