Rabbi's Table
At the end of 2003, I completed this Rabbi's table for the Judeau Reform Congregation in Durham, NC. This was truly a wonderful experience designing
and building something so instrumental in people's worship experience. This piece reflects the warmth and style of their new sanctuary - you may see a bit
of Frank Lloyd Wright in the design. It is made of walnut, jatoba (on the top), and figured cherry inlaid with an outlined curly English sycamore Star of
David in the bowed front. In addition to the table, two table top lecterns were built as well as a small rolling cabinet that slides under the table for
storage. In July 2004, I completed a complimentary
Kiddush Table for the sanctuary.
A couple of interesting design notes of this piece reflect
the attention to detail of my work; the Jatoba top was
selected for its extreme hardness since heavy Torah
scrolls are frequently placed on the top which would
damage most other hardwoods; the bowed front
compliments the arced worship space; English sycamore
was selected for the Star of David for its shimmering
characteristics; and the thick top was actually filled with
a honeycomb material often used in airplane wing
construction to reduce the weight of the piece so it can
be moved easier.  Dimensions: 72"W x 48"D x 35"H
